Workshop FAQ's
Here are some frequently asked questions about the workshops. If you can't find the answer you're looking for, please don't hesitate to contact Rebecca at info@rebeccaoldfield.com
-
Is there any parking? There is no designated parking however there is plenty of on street parking nearby. The workshop is along the main North Cardiff bus route.
-
Do I need any experience? Not at all! These workshops are designed with complete beginners in mind, so no prior experience is necessary. If you're a more advanced maker and have a specific skill or project you'd like to focus on, feel free to get in touch with Rebecca—she’ll be happy to help. We also recommend reading the workshop descriptions carefully, as any more advanced courses will be clearly detailed there.
-
What will I learn? Each workshop covers a variety of jewellery-making techniques, and the specific skills you'll pick up will depend on the workshop. We recommend reading the description of the one you're interested in for all the details. Rebecca also allows for plenty of creative freedom, so you can put your own personal touch on your piece. And don’t worry if you’re stuck for inspiration—there’ll be some examples on hand to help spark ideas!
-
Will more dates be added?Yes, more dates may be added depending on demand and availability. If you don’t see a suitable date for the workshop you want, feel free to reach out to Rebecca. She can inform you if additional dates are being planned or help arrange a session that works for you.
-
What time should I arrive? Please try to arrive 5–10 minutes before your class starts so you have a little time to get settled. No need to come earlier, as I may still be setting up the studio! We’ll start the class on time, so please do your best to arrive promptly. If you're running late, just give Rebecca a quick heads-up. We want to make sure everyone gets the most out of the workshop without holding up the fun for others!
-
Do I need to bring anything?Just your glasses if you need them, and a hair tie or clip to keep your hair back during the workshop. Everything else will be provided!
-
What should I wear?Working with your hands can get a little messy, so we recommend not wearing your best clothes to class—aprons will be provided to help keep you protected. Wear something comfortable but not too loose, as flowing clothing can be a fire hazard when working with tools and heat. For safety reasons, please avoid sandals or open-toe shoes, and make sure long hair is tied back. The workshop is over 100 years old and, while full of charm, it doesn’t have central heating. During the colder months, we advise dressing warmly—think layers and cosy socks. Portable heaters are used throughout the season to keep the space as comfortable as possible, and there are also fleeces available on site if you need an extra layer.
-
Who else will be at the workshop?Unless you've booked a private workshop, chances are you’ll be sharing the bench with other makers. However, depending on the day, you may be lucky (or not, depending on how you see it!) to have a one-to-one session with Rebecca. Unlike many other workshops, Rebecca does not cancel sessions if spaces aren’t filled, so you’ll still get a great experience, whether you're working alongside others or enjoying some personal time with Rebecca. It’s a relaxed, creative environment, no matter who you’re sharing the space with!

I am interested in booking a wedding ring workshop, how does it work? This workshop gives you the chance to create your own unique wedding rings with the expert guidance of Rebecca. Here's a breakdown of how it works: Initial Consultation: Your journey begins with a free consultation, typically lasting no longer than an hour at the workshop. During this time, you’ll discuss your style preferences, get your fingers sized, choose from a range of materials (all metal options are available), and select a date for the workshop. If you're unable to attend in person, Rebecca can arrange a remote consultation via Zoom. For this, you'll receive a postal pack, and a £30 deposit will be required. This deposit will be refunded or deducted from the workshop costs once the pack is returned, either by post or in person at the workshop. Workshop Day: On the day of the workshop, you'll start by creating practice rings in silver to help you feel comfortable before working on your real rings. Rebecca will guide you throughout the process, ensuring you feel confident with each step. Lunch Break: You’ll enjoy an afternoon tea box from a local catering company, included in the price, to share with your partner. If the weather is nice, you can relax and enjoy your lunch in the private courtyard. Celebration: At the end of the workshop, you’ll receive your completed rings in a beautiful Rebecca Oldfield Jewellery box to keep them safe until your wedding day. To celebrate, you'll also enjoy a glass of bubbles. Payment Details: The consultation is free, and to secure your workshop date, you'll need to pay the workshop fee. The cost of materials is due closer to the date (at least two weeks before the workshop). This is a personal and relaxed experience where you can create something truly unique for your wedding day.

Can I combine 2 workshops in one day?Absolutely! Just get in touch with Rebecca and she’ll be happy to create a bespoke workshop tailored to your interests and schedule. Most workshops run for around 2.5 to 3 hours, so combining two in a day works really well with a break in between. Popular combinations include stacking rings & textured bangles or stud earrings & pendant making—perfect if you’d like to explore more techniques or create a matching set. Group bookings are very welcome, whether it’s a creative day out with friends, a team-building activity, or a special celebration. Participants in group bookings can even mix and match workshops, so everyone can make something that suits their own interests. If you’d like to add a little something extra, Rebecca can also help arrange catering—such as an afternoon tea from a local provider (available for an additional fee). Feel free to get in touch to chat through your ideas and create a day that’s just right for you!
-

Are there any additional costs to the workshops?Wedding ring workshops: For the wedding ring workshops, any additional costs will be discussed during your initial consultation. The workshop fee covers the use of the space, expert tuition, and your afternoon tea, but does not include the materials for your wedding rings (such as gold), hallmarking, engraving, or stone setting. These additional costs will be outlined during your consultation, allowing you to choose the options that best suit your preferences and budget. Private jewellery making workshops: Private jewellery making workshops are tailored to your individual needs and interests. These workshops are discussed and organised directly with Rebecca in advance, ensuring that everything is planned according to your preferences. Rebecca will provide you with a quote for the workshop before booking, based on the design and materials you choose. Please note, the workshop fee does not include an afternoon tea lunch box, but this can be added on if desired for an additional cost. The only additional costs on the day would be if you decide to change your design or create extra pieces during the workshop. These costs will be clearly communicated to you ahead of time, so there are no surprises. This is a flexible and personal experience where you’ll have the freedom to explore your creativity and work closely with Rebecca to craft something unique. Jewellery Making Workshops (Textured Rings, Bangles, Stacking Rings, etc.) The workshops typically run for around 3 hours, providing plenty of time to learn new techniques and bring your ideas to life with the expert guidance of Rebecca. The price advertised for the workshop includes all the materials you’ll need to create your chosen piece—there are no additional fees for materials on the day. While no lunch is provided due to the duration of the workshop, tea, coffee, and biscuits are available throughout the session to keep you refreshed as you work. Details on what can be made in the workshop are available in the workshop description. You can also scroll through the gallery to see examples of what others have created in past sessions, giving you some inspiration for your own designs.
